About Zhimolostnyy (Жимолостный)

‘Zhimolostnyy’ is an old heirloom tomato that originated in Russia. Seeds of this tomato were brought by Stepanov Vladimir Vasilievich, the founder of the ‘Sady Rossii’ seed company, from one of his travels around Russia. The seeds were given to him by a gardener, whose family has been grown this variety from generation to generation as a family heirloom. As the original name of this tomato was forgotten, Stepanov Vladimir Vasilievich named it ‘Zhimolostnyy’ (Жимолостный means Honeysuckle in Russian), because the sweetness and smoothness of the flesh texture remained him his favorite honeysuckle berry.
Indeterminate, regular leaf plants produce large (11oz./300g), red beefsteaks with wavy shoulders. Smooth and juicy flesh with excellent, rich tomato flavor. Very good diseases resistance and suitable for both – hot and cooler regions. Stable harvest. Midseason, about 78 days to maturity.
