About Wessel’s Purple Pride (Cherokee Sausage)

‘Wessel’s Purple Pride’ is a very unusual, pepper-like shaped tomato developed by Markus Wessel of Ohio, USA, from a cross made between ‘Sausage’ and ‘Cherokee Purple.’ The original working name was ‘Cherokee Sausage,’ but Markus later changed it to ‘Wessel’s Purple Pride.’
An indeterminate, regular leaf tomato plants produce a very high yield of medium-sized (7oz./200g or more), paste-type tomatoes with fleshy fruits containing little gel and a very few seeds. Purple exterior and very good, sweet flavors. Excellent for eating fresh, but also great for sauces and pastes. Mid-season, about 75-80 days after transplant.
