About Variegated (Splash Of Cream)
‘Variegated’ is a unique tomato plant with regular, beautifully colored, white and green, variegated leaf foliage. Originated in Europe (probably Ireland). This variety has been grown in England and Western Europe for several years. First offered in the Seed Savers 2005 Yearbook by Carolyn Male of Salem, New York, USA, who received plants labeled ‘Splash of Cream’ from Greg Speichert of Indiana, USA. Ed Rasmussen shared the seeds which he received from France with Greg. According to Tatiana’s TOMATObase, Carolyn Male researched the origin of this variety and discovered, that the French person had received seeds of this tomato named ‘Varieated’, but had changed the name to ‘Splash of Ceam’. The original name of this variety is ‘Variegated’.
Indeterminate, vigorous plants loaded with small (2-3 oz./50-80g), red, round tomatoes with greenish gel. Unmature fruits are also variegated (green and white) and turn red when fully ripe. Good, well-balanced flavors. Fruits are blemish and crack free. Early, 50-70 days after transplant.
