About Turnip
Seeds of ‘Turnip’ tomato was given to Ken Fry of ‘Forgotten Heirlooms’ by a Michigan seed collector, who got them from an Italian family that has grown those tomatoes for several generations. They found the seed as they were cleaning out the garage of their great-grandfather and named this tomato variety ‘Turnip’ because it reminded them of a turnip in shape. Unfortunately, the name of that family has been lost as well as the name of the original tomato.
Indeterminate, regular, and wispy leaf plants are great producers of very big, (18-32oz./500-900g and more), red, irregular, heart-shaped fruits. Meaty flesh, sweet and rich tomato taste. Mid to late season, about 78-85 days to maturity.
