About Tom’s Yellow Wonder
‘Tom’s Yellow Wonder’ tomato was found by Tom Micholas, who saved seeds from a different-looking ‘Wonder Light’ tomato plant that grew in his field (possibly a result of a natural cross between ‘Wonder Light’ and ‘Pineapple’ or ‘Persimmon’). Tom shared the seeds with other tomato growers in New Jersey while the cross was still segregating. There were also few other segregations discovered, with pointed fruits, bi-colored and golden. Tom selected and stabilized a ‘true yellow’ beefsteak tomato with high heat tolerance and good flavor. First introduced to SSE by Susan Anderson of Texas and Paul Fish of Nebraska in 2008. Large (9-18oz./250-500g), yellow, slightly flattened beefsteaks with wavey shoulders, and excellent flavor when fully ripe. Indeterminate, regular leaf plants produce well from mid to late-season (80-85 days).
