About Syzranskaya Roza (Сызранская Роза)
‘Syzranskaya Roza’ is an old Russian local tomato variety. It was grown for many years in Syzran, Samara region*, Russia, and is very well known and liked by both – local growers and people visiting this region. Beautiful, large (14-25oz./400-700g), bright pink-colored beefsteaks have very good, well-balanced, sweet and sour, rich old-fashioned tomato flavors. Indeterminate, regular leaf plants with high yield. Midseason.
*The city’s symbol (but not emblem) is the tomato. Tomato was brought here by merchants from Astrakhan a few centuries ago and did so well, that Syzran had supplied half of Russia with its fruits for a very long time in the past. So, the city’s nickname is ‘Tomato Capital’. There is a regional tomato festival held every August. All Syzran heirloom tomatoes are well known as delicious fruits.
