About Spudayellow Strawberry
‘Spudayellow Strawberry’ was discovered by Bill Malin*, aka Spudleaf Willie, of Hillsboro, New Mexico in the United States. It developed from the accidental cross of ‘German Red Strawberry’ and an unknown potato leaf variety.
This prolific indeterminate potato leaf plant yields orange, beautiful hearts ranging in size from medium (5-12oz./150-350g) to large. Some of the larger hearts are blunt. The well-balanced, rich-flavored fruit is excellent in salads with strongly flavored cheese like Camembert or Gorgonzola. Midseason, about 75 days after transplant.
*A legendary tomato breeder, Bill Malin, had a particular passion for developing potato leaf tomatoes. Inspiring ideas were generated and shared with many tomato breeders thanks to his teachings on the curious phenomenon of serrated potato leaves. Bill passed away in the year 2017.
