About Sirenevoe Ozero (Сиреневое Озеро, Lavender Lake)
‘Sirenevoe Ozero’ is a rare variety that is thought to have originated in Bulgaria. Natalya Dryzhakova, the proprietor of the ‘Russkiy Bazar’ seed company, received the seeds from a tomato collector in Komsomolsk-on-Amur, Khabarovsk Krai, Russia, and sold them commercially. ‘Sirenevoe Ozero,’ translates to ‘Lavender Lake’ in Russian.
Indeterminate, regular leaf plants produce dark purple-black, oblate fruit weighing 4-14oz./100-400g. The tomatoes have sweetly succulent flesh with a very tart gel, making them great for fresh eating, cooking, or looking lovely sliced on a platter. This variety is well-suited for growing in pots or the garden or greenhouse. Mid-season, 70-80 days to maturity.

I grew this variety in my greenhouse in 2020 (in Denmark) after reading about it winning the prize for the best tomato in 2019 in Belgium. It truely a great tasting tomato. I however never tasted the tart gel, maybe I let my tomatoes hang longer than people usually do.
