About Sicilian Saucer
‘Sicilian Saucer’ is a family heirloom that originated in Sicilia, Italy. Seeds were given to Mr. Cook of Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, by his Sicilian neighbor who has had this variety in his family for generations. Mr. Cook liked this tomato very much and shared seeds with other gardeners. ‘Sicilian Saucer’ was listed in the 2005 catalog ‘Terra Edibles’, Foxboro, Ontario, Canada. First offered in the Seed Savers 2008 Yearbook by Michael Gunn of Pasadena, Texas.
Very prolific, indeterminate, regular leaf plants produce large (12-18oz./350-500g), red beefsteaks, slightly flattened and ribbed on the shoulders. Outstanding, rich, and sweet tomato flavors, and firm yet juicy flesh with small seed cavities. Very few seeds. Excellent for fresh eating, on sandwiches or burgers and in salads, but also great for rich tomato sauce or paste. Late, 85 days after transplant.
