About Sassy Red
‘Sassy Red’ is an indeterminate, regular leaf plant that produces heavy yields of 8-10oz./230-280g., scarlet-red, juicy but meaty, slightly fluted, oblate tomatoes with pronounced and slightly acidic, complex flavors worthy of becoming a standard in any garden. Seeds sent to Gary Ibsen in 2011 by Willard Paul, who had grown this variety for more than fifty years before he became ill and stopped gardening. He wanted to share what he considered to be a tomato variety with ‘sassy and delightful flavors’. ‘Sassy Red’ was not grown out by Gary Ibsen until 2018. After he tried this variety, he wrote: ‘A remarkable tomato that we will continue to grow out for seeds to share’.
