About Rugby Orange

‘Rugby Orange’ is a very rare heirloom tomato from the Reedy Family, Virginia, USA. It is one of the most beautiful orange oxhearts, that originated in the region of the American Appalachian Mountains in eastern North America. First offered in the Seed Savers 2003 Yearbook by Ronald E. Hamm of Marion, Virginia, who obtained the seeds directly from Ruth Reedy. She grew it in the Appalachian foothills near Rugby, Virginia for over 60 years. Large (5-18oz./150-500g), outstanding orange hearts with rich, perfectly balanced sweet and sour flavors and old-fashioned tomato aroma. Great for fresh eating in salads, on sandwiches, but also great for cooking (sauces, paste, or for delicious juice). Indeterminate, regular leaf plants with huge yields. Mid to late season, about 78-85 days after transplant.
