‘Red Butter Heart’ is a charismatic heirloom tomato variety that made its debut in the Seed Savers 1998 Yearbook, courtesy of Jeff Dawson. This indeterminate tomato plant features regular, wispy leaf foliage, producing clusters of 5-6 large to extra-large (11-25oz./300-700g or more) fruits. The tomatoes are distinctly red, heart-shaped, and boast a delightful sweetness with very meaty flesh, small seed locules, and minimal seeds. Late-season harvest begins approximately 85-90 days after transplanting. Although Tatiana’s TOMATOBase mentions both red and pink variations, the name suggests that the red version is the accurate one.
