About Porter, Charles Herring Strain
An improved strain of Porter, raised in the 1970-80s by Charles Herring of Gatesville, Texas from volunteer Porter plants. It had been selected and improved by Mr. Herring for 35-40 years. Reed Baize of Oklahoma, Charles Herring’s grandson, acquired the seeds from his grandfather and shared it with many friends and other gardeners in 2012. Reed reported that this variety is larger than Porter, but smaller than Porter Improved. Variety was introduced commercially by Tatiana’s TOMATObase Seeds in 2015. Indeterminate, regular leaf plant produces large amounts of 1 oz., gorgeous, jade-pink, oval tomatoes with delicious, well-balanced flavors. Keeps well on the counter way after picking. A likely favorite addition to your garden.
