About Paisano, F1 Hybrid

High-yielding, bush San Marzano type. Medium determinate regular leaf plant produces concentrated sets of 4-5 oz., thick-walled, bright-red, fruits with blunt ends that are reminiscent of popular San Marzano variety. Its good, rich flavors and meaty flesh make for a great, flavorful sauce or canning tomato.

Paisano is my paste tomato of choice after decades of using other varieties. The fruit grows in clusters (like very big grapes), with the branches often needing support to prevent breakage under the weight. We have a very short and erratic growing season, but unless there is an early frost Paisano always produces. Prone to blossom end rot if not supplemented with calcium.
