About Micek’s Yugoslavian

‘Micek’s Yugoslavian’ tomato was an original gift from Joe Micek, a WWll veteran, who got this variety as a plant from a nameless nursery owner in Emmaus, PA. Joe loved these tomatoes so much that he has been growing them exclusively for many years. He shared seeds with Beverly Phillips, Allentown who also liked them very much. Sean Stimac, who received the seeds from Beverly Phillips, shared them with Ken Fry of Ravenna, Ohio. The variety was first introduced commercially by Ken’s ‘Forgotten Heirlooms’ in 2020.
Beautiful, pink, elongated, plum-shaped fruit with outstanding, sweet tomato taste. Midseason, about 75 days to maturity.

    Distinctively elongated and pointy-bottomed, Micek's Yugoslavian is unlike any other tomato I've grown. My buddy Joe Micek passed away in 2017 in his 90's, about 15 years after first sharing the seeds with me. We compared notes each summer about the progress of our seedlings and bountiful harvest. Joe used the fruits to make tomato juice, in addition to sharing his harvest with family and neighbors. Joe would have been thrilled to see his name in print in conjunction with this fine tomato. I find the "Yugo's" to be excellent in the dehydrator, uniform slices and very meaty. I hope to never be without this variety. I save my own seeds each year, and ferment them to dissolve the gelatinous seed coat. If you are looking for these seeds, I may have enough to share. There are not too many gardeners growing this gem and more would be helpful.
