About Merrill Schulz Beefsteak
Named after Merrill Schulz who grew this variety for 50 years in Columbus Ohio. Each year he harvested seed from his largest tomatoes for the next year’s planting. He planted hundreds of seedlings annually which he gave away to friends. Merrill died in 2010 at the age of 90. His final seeds harvested were sent to Gary Ibsen of TomatoFest in his honor by his friend Dr. Carey Hord. Tall indeterminate, regular leaf plants produce moderate amounts of 1-2 lb., slightly lobed, red, beautiful beefsteak tomatoes that are loaded with a well-balanced, delicious and complex range of sweet/acidic flavors. A perfect tomato for slicing thick into sandwiches. Rare tomato seeds.
