About Malakhitovaya Shkatulka (Малахитовая Шкатулка)
‘Malakhitovaya Shkatulka’ is a Russian commercial variety, created by Dederko Vladimir Nikolaevich, Postnikova Olga Valentinovna in 2004, and included in the Russian State Register in 2006. It is one of the most popular green when ripe tomatoes. The translated name means ‘Malachite Box’, named after the lovely green boxes that are made from this mineral that comes from the Ural mountains and other areas. Indeterminate, regular leaf plant produces early crops of 6-7 oz., light-to-olive green, medium-sized globes with succulent bright green flesh that is very flavorful and tasty. Plants are productive even in the north, as this variety was developed at ‘Svetlana’ Farm in Russia, and it has been tested in Siberia. The seeds to the West were first sent to Tatiana Kouchnareva of ‘Tatiana’s TOMATObase’ as part of a large seed exchange with Tamara Yaschenko of Biysk, Siberia, Russia in 2006. Tatiana grew it in 2006 and offered it in the 2007 SSE Yearbook.
