About Ludmilla’s Yellow Giant
The heirloom ‘Ludmilla’s Yellow Giant’ hails from Kazakhstan. Reinhard Kraft named this variety after Liudmila, who grew it in her family and passed on seeds to Reinhard. Her family later immigrated to Germany, bringing this variety with them. Carolyn Male of Salem, New York, Neil Lockhart of Oblong, Illinois, and Nancy Kirch of New York first offered this heirloom to the USA in the Seed Savers 2010 Yearbook.
This indeterminate, regular leaf plant bears medium to large (6-12oz./180-350g), round, slightly flattened orange fruit with a meaty, smooth flesh, well-balanced flavor. Late season maturity, around 85 days.
