About Livingston’s Beauty

‘Livingston’s Beauty’ was developed by A.W. Livingston and introduced commercially in 1886. The description from the 1900 Livingston’s Seed Catalog says: “A decided favorite for either home market or shipping purposes, being early, hardy, a strong grower, productive, large size, always smooth, perfect in shape and excellent quality. The color is very glossy crimson with a tinge of purple. It grows in clusters of four to six large fruits, retaining its large size late in the season. It ripens with Acme and Perfection, and is entirely free from ribbed and elongated fruit. It is very firm-fleshed, has a tough skin, and but few seeds. It seldom rots or cracks after a rain like many other of the tender-skinned sorts. For shipping and early market it cannot be excelled, on account of solidity, the toughness of skin, and especially its handsome color; it can be picked quite green, will look well and ripen up nicely, and keep perfect for a week after it is ripe. Used largely by market men and long-distance shippers everywhere.”
This indeterminate, tall and strong plant has regular leaf foliage and is an outstanding producer of medium to large (5-11oz. /150-300g), beautiful pink, oblate tomatoes with a sweet, luscious flavor. Mid to late season – the first ripe fruits can be harvested about 78 days after transplant.
