About Serdtse Ashkhabada (Сердце Ашхабада, Heart of Ashkhabad)
‘Serdstse Ashkhabada’ is a Russian heirloom tomato, that is considered as a folk selection, bred in the Turkmen SSR in the 1960s. This variety quickly became a very popular tomato among gardeners of that era. Received state registration in 1972, but currently, there is no record of it in the ‘Russian State Register’.
It is widely grown in open ground in Russia, especially in such regions as the Astrakhan and Rostov Regions, the Stavropol Territory, Crimea.
‘Serdtse Ashkhabada’ is a semi-determinant plant with regular leaf foliage. Grows up to about 1.5 m high. Very good diseases resistance. Beautiful, large, yellow/orange heart-shaped fruit weight about 10-14 oz. Very meaty flesh with small seed cavities and very few seeds. Sweet and aromatic, very good tomato flavor. Midseason, about 75 days to maturity.
