About Hays’ (Hays’ Tomato)
‘Hays’ tomato is a very beautiful family heirloom from Bulgaria. Seeds of this variety were given to Jeffrey Casey, the owner of Casey’s Heirloom Tomatoes of Airdrie, in 2008 by Frances Machum of Alberta, Canada. She got this variety from the proprietor, Bob Ponting, of a cafe in Hays, Alberta. The original name of this tomato was lost and Frances named it after the city of Hays. First introduced commercially by Casey’s Heirloom Tomatoes of Airdrie in 2010.
Medium to large (5-11oz./150-300g), pink, meaty hearts are born on indeterminate, regular, and wispy leaf vines. Sweet, rich tomato flavors. Very few seeds. Midseason, about 80 days to maturity.
