About Golden Dwarf Champion

‘Golden Dwarf Champion’ is an old commercial heirloom tomato, that originated in the USA. Pre-1900 Burpee tomato variety, that was donated to USDA in 1969 (PI 339943). According to the 1899 W. Atlee Burpee Seed Annual, the original seed was sent to them by their customer about 1896 and it was first released about 1898. This variety is probably related to ‘Pink Champion’, an old Shumway dwarf-type tomato. ‘Golden Dwarf Champion’ has been the particularly valuable starting point for the ‘Dwarf Tomato Project’ – the biggest dwarf-breeding project searching for varieties in a range of sizes, colors, and flavors, conceived of and managed by Patrina Nuske-Small of Australia and Craig LeHoullier, North Carolina, USA.
Determinate, dwarf-type plant with regular and rugose leaf foliage is a fairy producer of small (2-4oz./50-100g), round, yellow fruits. Sweet, juicy flesh with outstanding fruity flavors. Midseason, about 75 days to maturity.
