About Gold Medal
This variety Introduced in 1921 as “Ruby Gold” by John Lewis Childs of Floral Park, New York, in his catalog. Ben Quisenberry renamed the tomato Gold Medal and listed it in his 1976 catalog stating, “The sweetest tomato you ever tasted.” Truly a wonderful, 1 lb., smooth, yellow and red bi-color beefsteak tomato with pink marbling in blossom end, thin skin and firm flesh with luscious sweet, well-balanced, mild flavors. Harvested ripe fruit lasted for a couple of weeks before showing signs loosing it’s beauty. Winner of the 2008 SSE Tomato Tasting.
