About Dominico

An heirloom tomato originally from Spain. In 1939 there were 440,000 Spanish refugees in France. Some brought seeds with them from their gardens. Dominico regularly grew his own tomatoes in the Toulouse area and gave seeds to his neighbors. Louis Lacaze has relatives who adopted this variety and generously sent some of his seeds to Gary Ibsen for planting in the TomatoFest trials. They were first thought to be Couilles de Taureau but as the name has been given to quite a few different varieties Louis decided to call them Dominico in memory of the man who brought them to France. This variety gives big crops of 1-2 pound, red, very delicious, complex flavored tomatoes with a clean sweet, acidic after taste. A wonderful salad or sandwich tomato.
