About Boloto (Болото)

‘Boloto’ is a Russian commercial open-pollinated tomato variety, created by Andreeva Evgeniya Nikolaevna, Nazina Sofiya Luizovna, and Ushakova Mariya Ivanovna from ‘Timiryazev’s Agricultural Academy’ in Moscow. Introduced by the ‘Gisok’ seed company in 2002 and included in the Russian State Register in 2004.
Indeterminate, but compact plants with regular leaf foliage. Very good yield of medium-sized (5-9oz./150-250g) green when ripe beefsteak-type tomatoes with clear epidermis. Sometimes fruit gets a pink blush at the blossom end when fully ripe. Very juicy, sweet flesh, meaty and creamy, outstanding, rich flavor. First offered in the Seed Savers 2007 Yearbook by Neil Lockhart of Oblong, Illinois, who received seeds from Andrey Baranovski of Minsk, Belarus. Midseason, about 70-75 days to maturity.
