‘Berkeley Tie-Dye Red’ is a selection from the ‘Berkeley Tie-Dye Heart’ tomato found by Suzan Anderson, who received seeds from Bruce Bradshaw of California, USA. Bruce grew ‘Berkeley Tie-Dye Heart’ as well as different selections of dark-fruited beefsteaks. ‘Berkeley Tie-Dye Red’ is probably a natural bee cross. Susan Anderson stabilized it for 4 years before she offered it in the Seed Savers Exchange Yearbook in 2010.
Beautiful, large (5-12oz./150-350g), red fruits with green stripes, slightly flattened and ribbed on the shoulders. Juicy yet meaty flesh with excellent, well-balanced tomato flavors. Indeterminate, regular leaf plants with high yield. Midseason, about 80 days to maturity.
