About 1884 Strawberry Wedge
‘1884 Strawberry Wedge’ was discovered in 1994 by Darrell Merrell of Tulsa, Oklahoma when he grew ‘1884’ tomato plants. According to Tatiana‘s TomatoBase, some plants were different and produced strawberry wedge-shaped fruits instead of expected beefsteaks. It could have been that a few stray seeds of a known heart-shaped variety accidentally got mixed in. First offered in the Seed Savers 1997 Yearbook by Darrell Merrell. Fruits are dark pink, heart-shaped, 7-14oz./200-400g with firm flesh and excellent, well-balanced flavor. Very vigorous plants with big development, indeterminate, regular leaf, ripening 90days after transplant.
