What causes blossom drop on tomato plants?

Blossom drop on tomato plants can be caused by

  • large temperature differences between night and day
  • low temperatures (below 16°C/60 F)
  • high temperatures (above 30°C/86 F)
  • excessive nitrogen fertilization with too low phosphorus supply
  • insufficient light intensity
  • insufficient assimilation surface of the leaves, which contributes to improper plant nutrition
